After a pair of rainouts, the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com resumes their 2014 season on Thursday and Friday nights at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. and the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind.
Thursday’s event at the Shelby County Fair will be the first race in front of the newly rebuilt covered grandstands. The original wooden grandstand had stood for 133-years before an arsonist set fire to the historic structure, burning it to the ground on May 19, 2012.
The addition of the covered grandstand should make for an enjoyable evening for the fans to watch the races. The Shelbyville track is a favorite of the drivers and teams, and we are looking forward to a great evening showcasing MTQRL three-quarter midget racing.
To celebrate Independence Day, the MTQRL returns to the Rush County Fairgrounds for the Rushville Nationals on Friday evening. The Rush County Fair Board has solicited sponsors to raise the feature start money to $150, with every position increased a minimum of $75. To be eligible for the additional purse money the car must have participated in both Rushville fair races.
At Shelbyville, the cars are scheduled to hit the track at 6:00 pm to practice, followed by qualifications, and racing is set to begin at 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $10, adult stadium seats are $12, youths 11-17 are $8, and children 10 and under are free.
Practice is scheduled for 6:30 pm at Rushville, with qualifications at 7:00 pm, racing at 7:30 pm, and fireworks once it gets dark. Adult general admission is $10, children 6 to 12 are $2, and children 5 and under are free.
Pit passes both nights are $25 for all ages, and minors must have both parents present to sign the proper release forms to enter the restricted pit area.
In addition to the purse, the MTQRL has several contingency sponsors that contribute additional cash and prizes to its drivers and owners.
Jackson Oil & Solvents will award two (2) $50 gift certificates, one via a random drawing at the drivers meeting and the other to the winner of the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel.
Watson Racing is the presenting sponsor of the Watson Racing Quick Time Award, which will reward the fastest qualifier with a $50 cash prize.
Perfect North Slopes will give a pair of tubing passes ($50 value) to each heat winner, and Indy Race Parts will present the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger Award and a $20 gift certificate to the driver who passes the most cars in the feature.
Tony Stewart Racing will reward the highest finishing rookie in the feature with a $50 cash prize, and Duane & Sonja Alexander will present $50 to the Hard Luck Driver.
